DENVER (KDVR) — The influx of migrants coming to Denver has impacted the city's budget and the existing unhoused population. Now, the Denver Public Schools system is also feeling pressure from a spike in migrant students. FOX31's Carly Moore sat down with the director of the Multilingual Education Department, Adrienne Endres. She said classrooms are overflowing and resources are being squeezed. The goal of the department at DPS is to enroll students in either the bilingual or English as a second language program. Denver food pantries stretched thin helping migrants with rising demand They also have "Newcomer Centers" at all grade levels. The centers are for students who are new to the United States, have a history of interrupted education and have poor literacy in both English and their native language. DENVER (KDVR) — Black widows can be found anywhere in the U.S. And yes, that includes Denver. Since it was a humid year, insect populations, like grasshoppers, increased. With insects being a spider's main prey, the black widow population rose, according to Francisco Garcia, an entomologist at the Butterfly Pavilion. These are the most dangerous spiders in Colorado That being said, black widows are lurking around all of Colorado, but they aren't necessarily common to see. This is because the spider is extremely shy."They only prefer to be in places that are completely undisturbed. We don't want to mess with them, and we don't want to interact with them, and they also don't want to interact with humans at all," said Garcia. In cases where people get bitten by a black widow, it's usually because people are working in a space they don't normally go. This could be the corner of an unused closet or the basement of a house. Garcia attributes it to bad luck."Most of the time, a spider wi...Arrests made following shooting outside Aventura condominium

France’s top administrative court Thursday annulled a government decision to ban a climate activist movement after it repeatedly clashed with the police during protests.Although the climate group “engaged in provocative and violent acts against property,” its disbanding was “not appropriate, necessary and proportionate to the situation,” the French Council of State found, declaring the interior ministry’s order to disband the organization null and void. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin in June ordered the leaderless climate group Les Soulèvements de la Terre (“Uprisings of the earth”) to be disbanded following violent clashes between campaigners and the police during protests against the construction of large water reservoirs in western France. Darmanin argued that the activists were inciting “eco-terrorism” across the country, and 18 people were arrested.Judges temporarily suspended the government’s disbanding order in August, arguing it res...5-year-old girl reported missing in Providence found dead after search

Slightly fewer Americans applied for jobless claims last week, further indicating that the labor market remains strong in an era of high interest rates.Applications for unemployment benefits fell by 3,000 to 217,000 for the week ending Nov. 4, the Labor Department reported Thursday.Jobless claim applications are seen as representative of the number of layoffs in a given week. The four-week moving average of claims, a less volatile measure, inched up by 1,500 to 212,250.Overall, 1.83 million people were collecting unemployment benefits the week that ended Oct. 28, about 22,000 more than the previous week and the most since April. Those “continuing claims,” analyst suggest, are rising because many of those who are already unemployed may now be having a harder time finding new work.Still, the American labor market continues to show resiliency in the midst of the Federal Reserve’s campaign to get inflation back down to its 2% target.Though Fed officials opted to leave the benchmark rate a...Latest news
