WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A California court says it won't dismiss the false advertising case against the maker of North Carolina-based hot sauce Texas Pete, meaning the battle is only heating up.Filed by plaintiff Phillip White on Sept. 12, 2022, the class-action lawsuit accuses T.W. Garner Food Co. of deceptively marketing Texas Pete as a Texas product, when it's actually produced in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.White's complaint, filed on behalf of all people in the U.S. who have purchased Texas Pete, is asking the court to force Texas Pete to change its name and branding, and to give money to past customers. T.W. Garner Food Co. filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit on Nov. 10, 2022. On July 31, 2023, U.S. District Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong denied the motion to dismiss. Why wasn't the case dismissed?Frimpong explained the decision to deny T.W. Garner Food Co.'s motion to dismiss in a 20-page order."When considering the label as a whole, the Court finds that a reason...Could AI help detect more cancers from mammograms?

(The Hill) - An artificial intelligence (AI) analysis of mammograms detected more cancers than two breast radiologists working together, according to a new study, without increasing false positives and almost halving the radiologists' workload.Interim findings from the first randomized study investigating the use of AI in a national breast cancer screening program, published in the journal Lancet Oncology, suggested AI-supported screening detected 20 percent more cancers compared with the routine double reading of mammograms by two breast radiologists.European guidelines recommend double reading of screening mammograms to ensure high sensitivity. The U.S. does not have the same standard, but like many other countries is experiencing a shortage of breast radiologists. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the U.S., accounting for about 30 percent of all new cancer cases in women each year. Bruce Helmer and Peg WebbIn our practices, we often have older clients who have built a substantial balance in their qualified accounts such as traditional IRAs or 401(k) plans. In many cases they don’t need to take income from these accounts when they reach age 73, the new start date for taking required minimum distributions (RMDs). Fortunately, two popular provisions within the Internal Revenue Code will permit them to defer RMDs into the future while making meaningful contributions to charity, as well as reduce the size of the RMDs they would otherwise have to take by using deferred income annuities. What’s the tax problem with IRA distributions?Distributions from a traditional IRA or 401(k) are taxed at ordinary rates, currently topping out at 37%. Because they’re taxable, RMDs may also create tax issues around net investment income tax (NIIT) for many taxpayers. For this reason, seniors who don’t need the income often choose to postpone distributions for as long as possible. If yo...SPAC announces 2023-2024 Spa Little Theater season

Published Sun, 24 Nov 2024 20:30:02 GMT
By Alanna Durkin Richer | Associated PressThe Justice Department has asked a federal judge overseeing the criminal case against former President Donald Trump in Washington to step in after he released a post online that appeared to promise revenge on anyone who goes after him.Prosecutors on Friday requested that U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan issue a protective order concerning evidence in the case, a day after Trump pleaded not guilty to charges of trying to overturn his 2020 election loss and block the peaceful transition of power. The order, different from a “gag order,” would limit what information Trump and his legal team could share publicly about the case brought by special counsel Jack Smith.Chutkan on Saturday gave Trump’s legal team until 5 p.m. Monday to respond to the government’s request.Such protective orders are common in criminal cases, but prosecutors said it’s “particularly important in this case” because Trump has...California women get paid 88% of men, and that’s 6th-best in US

In a summer celebrating women, entertainment-wise at least, the pay gap by gender still simmers. While we flock to theaters to see “Barbie,” pack stadiums for Taylor Swift’s music tour and stay up all hours cheering the U.S. women’s national team, this bright cultural spotlight doesn’t truly reflect progress at the workplace.Despite a milestone agreement for equal pay last year for the U.S. women’s soccer team, my trusty spreadsheet tells me the typical female worker clearly gets paid less than their male counterparts.A peek inside the government’s annual report on the women’s wage gap compared coronavirus-chilled 2021 to 2016. The good news for California’s female workforce is that the state’s job market has the sixth-smallest wage gap among the states.Margot Robbie in a scene from “Barbie” shows off her flat feet to other barbies.
