Colorado ski resort predicts long spring skiing season

WINTER PARK, Colo. (KDVR) -- Colorado mountain resorts are gearing up for spring skiing. Winter Park Resort announced plans to stay open until late spring which could make for one of its longest seasons yet. "Anything is really possible in the spring, especially in Colorado, but we have really good late-season skiing that is solid from April to May,” Jen Miller with Winter Park Resort said. The resort will close some of its slopes on Sunday, Apr. 23, but will keep the Mary Jane side of the mountain open as long as possible. Winter Park’s total snowfall for the season is the most the resort has seen since 2019. "We’re just kind of right in the sweet spot,” Miller said. “We’ve had really good snow that’s been consistent all season long.” How much snowfall did Denver get this winter? DENVER (KDVR) -- A recent graduate of Denver East High School is among those leading the charge for campus safety reform.Sofia Joucovsky graduated from the school in May of 2022. ROLLING FORK, Miss. (AP) — A tornado tore through a rural area of the Mississippi Delta Friday night, causing injuries, widespread damage and downing power lines as severe weather that produced hail the size of golf balls moved through several southern states.The National Weather Service in Jackson confirmed a tornado caused damage about 60 miles (96 kilometers) northeast of Jackson. (CNN) — The Justice Department announced charges Friday against a Russian national who allegedly entered the United States under a fake identity and gathered information from American citizens about the then-looming Russian invasion of Ukraine.For years, Sergey Vladimirovich Cherkasov, a 37-year-old agent of a Russian intelligence service, operated under the alias Victor Muller Ferreira, prosecutors said. Officials said at least five homes were involved in a large fire that burned in Scituate Friday night.Many of the flames had been knocked down as of around 9:30 p.m. Still, heavy smoke remained as firefighters from multiple area communities continued to work on scene on Glades Road near Minot Beach. In an update at the scene, fire officials said they first received a call about the fire shortly before 8 p.m. Officials said crews soon arrived to find three buildings already in flames. Officials described efforts to contain the fire as wind whipped through the area. Still, fire eventually spread to two additional homes. (AP) — Firefighters battled a blaze in Pennsylvania Friday after an explosion at a chocolate factory injured eight people and sent a plume of black smoke into the air above West Reading.Berks County fire crews remained on the scene at the R.M.
