Dave Stewart is as Oakland as it gets. As a kid, that meant hopping the Coliseum fences to watch Reggie Jackson. As an adult, it meant becoming a champion and having his number retired with the team he idolized.“Born and raised in Oakland,” he said. “Born and raised in the Coliseum.”In 2021, the Oakland City Council turned down Stewart’s bid to buy a 50 percent share of the Coliseum as a backup plan to keep the A’s in Oakland, opting instead to sell it to the African American Sports and Entertainment Group. Years later, this Oakland native is now watching the A’s pack up and begin a move to Las Vegas.Stewart can only shake his head now that it’s come to this.“I’m just disappointed in the whole process,” he said. “I have a personal experience in trying to do something in the city, with the city, and I don’t have any bad experiences with John Fisher. But I do believe it was a bad divorce.”Stewart isn’t angry. He isn’t upset. HeR...

That debate has intensified in the years since the #MeToo movement exploded onto the national scene, as some states extend deadlines for lawsuits, eliminate them altogether or enact so-called lookback laws establishing windows of a year or two to sue.Nevada dropped its statute of limitations on M...

Select advanced math classes to go virtual in Montgomery County

Published Mon, 17 Feb 2025 21:58:16 GMT

Some Montgomery County students are going back online. Advanced math classes at select elementary schools in the county will only be offered virtually next year.Montgomery County Public Schools spokesperson Jessica Baxter told WTOP this applies to 4th and 5th graders who demonstrate a need for course advancement. The virtual classes will only happen in schools where fewer than 10 students are recommended for advanced mathematics.“In many cases, the number of students who need this kind of acceleration is small and may not make up a full class. As a result, we work with schools to provide a variety of instructional models, including virtual instruction,” Baxter said. She didn’t say which schools will be impacted.MOCO360, which first reported the story, spoke to parents at Highland View Elementary School, who said they were informed by the principal earlier this month that advanced math would only be offered online because of the small class size and limited resources...
