The Chico Basin Ranch just southeast of Colorado Springs spans 86,000 acres and is held in trust for the benefit of Colorado’s K-12 schools. For the last 23 years, this beautiful short-grass prairie land has been ranched and managed by Duke Phillips and his family’s Box T ranching business, but that will change in two years if the Colorado Land Board sustains a staff decision to lease the land to a different ranching operation. In a public hearing on Wednesday, Nov. 8, the Colorado State Land Board will consider an appeal from Phillips and his family that is asking the board to consider more than just money when awarding a new 10-year lease on the land. The appeal is a last-ditch effort to maintain operations on the land that the family has invested heart and soul into over the last two decades, generating grants to improve the land’s ecology and increase the ranch’s recreation, hospitality, and agricultural output. We find it impossible not to empathize with the Phillips family f...Avalanche newcomers Miles Wood, Tomas Tatar have a chance to “stick it to them” against their former team

There were a few more players from the opposing team watching parts of the Colorado Avalanche’s morning skate Tuesday at Ball Arena, and it’s pretty safe bet on the reasoning for it — two of their old pals were on the ice.Miles Wood and Tomas Tatar were getting ready to face their former team for the first time with the New Jersey Devils in town.“It’s exciting to see all the guys again,” Tatar said. “You want to play well to kind of stick it to them. I have a lot of friends on the team and I had a great two years there. I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing against them.”Wood was a fourth-round pick by the Devils in 2013, and spent eight seasons in New Jersey. His best year was 2017-18, when he had a career-high 19 goals and 32 points, and the club made the playoffs for the first time in six seasons. After that, it was a long grind of a rebuild, followed by a couple of seasons with increased preseason expectations but di...Actors strike may be near its end, Deadline reports
