PANAJI, India (AP) — Russia is unlikely to face backlash over its war in Ukraine at an upcoming meeting of Central Asian foreign ministers and instead could flex its influence with the regional group. The meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization ministers Friday in India’s picturesque state of Goa is the latest avenue for the host nation to burnish its geopolitical credentials as it seeks to cement itself as a consequential global player. It won’t have to contend with an East-West split over the war in Europe, which caused frustration for New Delhi as the chair for this year’s meetings of the Group of 20 leading economies. But India will be looking to secure its own interests in the region, especially as Russia relies more deeply on India’s rival China as Moscow’s invasion drags on, analysts say.India will also be hosting archrival Pakistan’s foreign minister in the first visit from a high-ranking official in nearly a decade.“Russia needs friends. MIAMI (AP) — The Atlanta Braves are placing right-hander Kyle Wright on the injured list after he left in the third inning of Wednesday’s 14-6 win over the Miami Marlins with right shoulder soreness.“It sucks,” Wright said after the game, fighting back tears. He opened the season on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation and had a cortisone shot in January, though he wasn’t sure Wednesday if it was the same issue that caused his early exit.Wright said he started feeling discomfort in the second inning but felt good enough to stay in the game until three batters into the third.“I didn’t feel good enough to keep going,” Wright said. “At that point, I wasn’t being smart. I give Kranny (pitching coach Rick Kranitz) a lot of credit for protecting me from myself.”Manager Brian Snitker said he and Kranitz suspected something was off when they noticed a dip in Wright’s velocity. His fastball velocity hit 94.8 to start the game, dipped to 92.6 in the second and 9...Scherzer hit hard, chased early in return from suspension

DETROIT (AP) — New York Mets ace Max Scherzer struggled in his return from a suspension Wednesday night, allowing six runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings against the Detroit Tigers during the second game of a doubleheader.“I was spraying the ball, especially out of the stretch, and that’s what you expect coming off a long layoff,” Scherzer said. “The number one thing was getting through this start healthy, and we did that. Now we can move forward.” Detroit won 8-1 to sweep the twinbill. Scherzer was suspended for 10 games by Major League Baseball on April 20 after getting ejected for having a foreign substance on his pitching hand during his April 19 start against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The three-time Cy Young Award winner was facing the Tigers for the third time since leaving the team after the 2014 season. DENVER (KDVR) -- Property taxes have been a hot topic these last days of the legislative session. A proposal rolled out on Monday is on the calendar for debate in the Senate Wednesday night. While the governor and lawmakers are highlighting the reductions that could come from the new property tax proposal, others are advising on how the measure could impact money elsewhere.FOX31 political analyst Michael Fields is the president of the conservative think tank Advance Colorado. He is working on an initiative to get a property tax measure on the ballot this year or next year."Basically, this would not be billions of dollars like the governor's plan would be to take TABOR refunds from people. This is really what's going on with his property tax relief. It's saying 'we're going to take a large portion of your TABOR refunds that would be coming back to you anyway, we're going to put it into property tax relief, and act like this is some kind of property tax cut for you,'" Fields said. DENVER (KDVR) — Flood concerns are increasing due to rapid snowmelt in northwest Colorado. Flood watches are in effect through Saturday for parts of Moffat, Routt, Rio Blanco and Garfield counties. This includes Lower Yampa River Basin, Central Yampa River Basin, Elkhead and Park Mountains, Upper Yampa River Basin, and Flat Tops - including the cities of Rangely, Dinosaur, Craig, Hayden, Meeker, Columbine, Hahns Peak, Toponas, Steamboat Springs, Buford, and Trappers Lake. The concern is that rapid snowmelt could lead to excessive runoff, which may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Be careful if you are traveling in those areas because creeks and streams may rise out of their banks and flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas, low-water crossings may be flooded. Another concern is that storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.A flood warning is also in effect for portions of the Dolores River from t...Latest news
